The Honda Ruckus®, also known as the Honda® Zoomer and its model name the NPS50, was first released in 2001 and only in the Japanese market. It made its American debut in 2003 and changed the whole scene of the scooter industry. It has been modified slightly over the years, but the cosmetic design has remained relatively the same. Interstate Cycles in Lake City, Florida, is your go-to source for great outdoor powersports fun! Plus, we serve the Jacksonville and Gainesville, Florida, areas, too!

Unlike Other Scooters On the Market

The Honda Ruckus sits on a basic frame with fat wheels and produces 49cc of power. It's perfect for young riders, like college students to get around on city streets and dirty back roads. At the turn of the century, when it was released in North America, it was the only bike of its kind. Since sales were booming throughout most of the last two decades, Honda has only made minor improvements each year to the model, except in 2010, because of the recession.

Is It a Motorcycle, Moped, or a Scooter?

The Ruckus is considered a moped or motor-driven cycle in most states because of the engine size. It has a 49cc engine and only reaches a top speed of 30mph on level ground. Because of this, you shouldn't need to have a motorcycle license to operate it, but you will probably need a regular driver's license to ride on public highways. Therefore, you should research the laws in your state regarding mopeds and scooters.

As a celebration for the Ruckus' 10th year, Honda released a traditional racing color scheme, the red and white model, in 2012. This was the first significant change to the bike since it was initially released in 2001. To this day, Honda still manufactures the Ruckus, with very few modifications from the initially released model. The thought is likely that if it's not broken, don't fix it. With that approach, the Ruckus' sales have done very well in all markets since then.

The retail price for a Honda Ruckus in North America is approximately $2,800. Since it's considerably less expensive than some cars on the market, it's a popular choice for the younger generations to get to and from college classes, a part-time job, or other places.

With the Honda Ruckus, you can quickly get around town or your college campus. Also, you probably do not need to have a motorcycle license to operate it.
