If you want to learn how to prevent rust, the knowledgeable experts at Interstate Cycles have put together this guide to help you. And when you’re in need of ATV parts, come see us in Lake City, Florida, serving Jacksonville and Gainesville, Florida.

1. Keep the ATV Clean

Get into the habit of thoroughly cleaning your quad every time you use it and thoroughly drying the parts.

2. Remove Dirt and Debris

Make sure to remove dirt and debris from the ATV as soon as possible.

3. Invest in a Cover

A cover will help protect the ATV from the outside elements each season if you can't store it in a garage.

4. Lubricate the Parts

Make it a point to grease everything that has contact with water.

5. Repair the Nicks

Touch up nicks in the paint to prevent them from forming rust.

6. Add a Fuel Stabilizer

Fuel stabilizer will prevent rust from developing in the gas tank.

7. Apply Anti-Sieze Lubricants

Apply anti-sieze lubricants like Loctite or Permatex to the fasteners.

8. Protect the Engine From Water

Any water that gets inside the engine can lead to a significant amount of corrosion, so avoid submerging the ATV in a body of water.

9. Apply a Protective Coating

You'll need to protect the aluminum parts with a few layers of coat paint. A protective coating will add a barrier to the parts to prevent them from having contact with moisture.

10. Use Skid Plates

Mounting skid plates will protect the underside of the ATV from rust.

11. Have Chain Grease on Hand

Chain grease will work well on the chain to prevent any corrosion from forming as the quad is used outdoors.

12. Apply Protective Oils

There are many brands of protective oils that you can apply to any exposed parts that have steel.

13. Grease the Fittings

Get into the habit of greasing the fittings on a routine basis. The fittings are easy to identify because they come marked and labeled.

14. Remove Ice and Snow

Ice and snow should also be removed before storing the ATV away to prevent moisture from sitting on the ATV.
