Interested in purchasing a new four-wheeler? Before you walk your new vehicle off the lot, make sure it’s the perfect model for you by setting up a test ride with your new four-wheeler. Just make sure before you do that you check out our helpful tips below on how to successfully test-ride one of these vehicles.

Size & Engine Specs

Before you take off on your four-wheeler test ride, be sure to pay close attention to the size of your model. Check that your feet easily reach pedals and footrests and that you don’t have any issues reaching your controls while in a riding position. You’ll also want to ask your salesperson about the model’s engine specs. Typically, beginners will want to stay under 650 ccs while experienced four-wheeler riders will prefer models with 700ccs or more.

Suspension

Four-wheelers typically have impressive suspension systems to support off-road travel. However, when test-riding your new model, you’ll want to be sure to go over at least one large bump or dip. If the model bounces more than once, it’s a sign the suspension system may not be calibrated correctly, or the model isn’t a great fit for rough all-terrain travel.

Braking & Acceleration

Another important aspect to check during your test drive is how well your four-wheeler brakes and accelerates. Be sure to perform several hard stops to ensure your model can turn and brake on a dime, and give the engine some serious gas to check that the four-wheeler can reach your preferred speeds.
